How To Setup Gigabit Ethernet How Powerful Should This Server Be?

How powerful should this server be? - how to setup gigabit ethernet

I am planning and budgeting in a network at home, and I wonder whether you have seen someone with experience in this type of server installation.

I'm trying to build a device as a server Network Attached Storage (NAS), but make sure that the server / NAS system is powerful enough to stream both 1080p and much more. Flac audio streams to different places in a big house, all at once.

Moreover, what I mean is that the current, it should since it is a SIN-end computer you can easily access the NAS file fast enough so that they can decode h.264 / HD does not stutter or skip or experience the loss of quality. (same for audio streaming)

I probably will this link to a Gigabit andTHERNET switch with two lines of 1.000 Mbps, the bandwidth should be no problem, but how much power the CPU / RAM should be just this? Do I need a setup with two Xeon processors, or if a dual-or quad-core i7 single chip or only 6 gigabytes of memory?

Well, here are the potential bottlenecks:

1) Red
2) Hard Drive
3) RAM
With the appropriate priority.
Streaming is not consuming resources, in fact, I have a streaming server 1.6 Sempron single-core, works very well. With the amount of RAM you want that you with 64-bit operating systems, of course, continue to run (the program Linux or Windows, or what?)
But I would say that RAM is not so critical, I would say, start with 2 gigabytes should be sufficient.
For HD you want to go, instead of SAS SATA2, through the cache. With SATA2 hard drive should be no problem streaming.

A quad-core processor with 4 GB of RAM should suffice. A i7 is equipped with 6 GB of RAM exaggerated. Make sure that all customers when they connected over 1 Gbps connections / s Powerline AV 802.11no that lower speeds, it becomes a bottleneck in data flow.
